How would I go about adding 1 to every value in the selected cells. For
example I have the numbers 228, 72, 56, and 45 in 4 consecutive cells.
How would I go about selecting them all and then adding one to each,
all at the same time?

Use the Paste Special command...

1. type a 1 in any blank cell

2. Copy the cell containing the 1

3. Select the four cells containing the numbers you wish to add 1 to

4. Click Edit-->Paste Special

5. Click "Add" in the Operation section of the dialog

6. (Optionally) Click Values in the Paste section to prevent formats from
being overwritten in pasted cells

7. Click OK

Enter 1 in a cell. Copy. Select your range of numbers and Paste
Special>Add>OK>Esc.

Clear contents of cell with 1.
