when you type a web address on the address bar, how do you eliminate previous
web sites that you visited from being displayed?

Internet properties -> content -> autocomplete, then uncheck necessary
boxes. Might want to clear forms also.
 
Hi,

That clears a lot of other stuff as well. To clear only the web address, you
would also need to delete the strings associated with them in this key of
the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

The URLs that you've typed manually can be removed using Rick's advice. The
ones in the Index.dat can be removed by clearing the history.

Delete the History folder and index.dat:

turn off auto complete
Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | uncheck Use Inline Auto Complete
and
Tools | Internet Options | Content | AutoComplete button | uncheck Web
