Is it a good idea to add another username, even if you don't need it,
just in case your username gets screwed up somehow and you can't get
in?

Is there a way to duplicate all the properties of the first user when
setting up another one?

Thanks!

It's a good idea, yes. Especially an additional user with Administrator
rights. Create a new user and add it to the Adminstrator group then set a
password. If you forget your Administrator ID password, you'll have this
other one.

Thanks! When I sep up the new user, is there a way to copy all the
settings/preferences from my original user?

If you have XP pro - my computer, properties, advanced, user profiles
copy to .. however you must be logged on as neither the to or from
userID for this to work.

Is this possible in XP Home?

I don't think the facility is there under computer, properties, but you
can achieve much the same thing by copying the profile (and more
particularly the ntuser.dat file) from c:\documents and settings\<old
user> to
c:\documents and settings\<new user>. This file is probably hidden,
system, etc., so you'll need to turn seeing those on (in explorer).
