had to rebuild with a dynamic rebuild. Finally got the installer to work and
did the system updates, but now the add remove software tool doesn't open nor
does the windows install cleanup tool.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

What happens when you click Start > Run and type "appwiz.cpl" (Without "") and click
OK ?

What is a dynamic rebuild? Why did you have to do this in the first place?
Maybe still underlying problems?

I may be using the wrong term. The term in the instructions is "in-place
upgrade". The reason i started this was to get the system restore console
on. Form the tech notes i found, because i didn't have it tunred on when
i
did the SP2 update, i had to an integration of my original XP CD(pre SP2)
and
the SP2 installation package, and then do the "in place upgrade". I've
had
lots of trouble since:
Window's installer would not load - fixed this
Now add remove tool won't open and some programs woun't run.

I'm about to through in an old disk, format it, and start from scratch.
But
i think i'll loose some programs in the process.

Sure would like to find some way to check/fix the integrity of the system.
I've run SFC but it didn't fix things. Maybe because of the "in place
upgrade" from the integrated builds.

btw, sorry that i posted in a new thread. I think i've been working on
this
too much:-)

Ok that explains things better. The system certainly is in mess. The
success of upgrading to SP2 on an installed system depends on the health of
the underlying system and that it's malware free. If there were any
problems they get magnified after SP2. You might just be better off
starting fresh. Since you have a slipstreamed CD, just do a clean install.
