My machine: E-machines; AMD 2600; 80 GB HD; 256 MB RAM; Windows XP home edition.

In control panel when I click on "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS", nothing happens.

Also;

When I boot up my machine, I don't get the "multiple users" screen I used to get; just a Username / password.
Can't switch users no matter what I try.

I have all the service packs and critical updates loaded.

Any ideas?

Jeff

Hi read your question and as much as I would like to tell you this is going to be easey I'm afraid it is not the thing you can try is to reinstall XP also XP runs best at 512 megs of ram under the hood .
Before you reinstall back up your hard drive as well also make any and all boot disks that you can.
Then manually uninstall XP.

Thanks for the help, although I must admit, that reinstalling the OS after only one month of owning the machine was NOT was I was wanting to hear. Of course, now that I know I have to reinstall the OS, it begs the question: Why in the hell would I have to do something so drastic in such a short period of time? I mean, what could I, the user, possibly have done to cause such a fatal flaw in the OS? If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them, cause I damn sure won't do it again (whatever it was that I did).

Sincerely,

Jeff
