add/remove device icon on taskbar missing

the add/remove device icon is missing, and does not turn on when I plug-in a
new device (i.e. usb memory stick)

Any suggestions

Open Device Manager, right-click My Computer, Manage, System Tools, Device Manager.
Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
Double click the Open Host controller entry.
On the Advanced tab, uncheck the box "Don't tell me about USB errors".
Do this for all the controllers listed.
