add/remove dead driver removal

I have a wia g3camera driver dead entry in add/remove, actually a double
entry, that I just can't get rid of. I have researched this area, and tried
all the tools such as jv16 etc. I am now following instructions to manual
removal from xpsp1. using regedit. The problem is that I can't find the
entry no matter how carefully I look in the uninstall string. I thought i
had found the double entry in a sub key of Instashield Uninstall( the only
one with sub keys represented by a + sign). It had several entries and two
reffering to the wia driver. I removed both sub keys, even rebooted, but the
entries remain in add/remove. So that wasn' it and I restored. How do I
remove those entries if there not there? Is there an alternative?Should I
remove the entire Instashield Uninstall Key even though it contains info
for other programs? I don't see this as necessary as I removed the relevant
sub key. There is absolutely no other info related to this driver in the
uninstall key.

The driver *should* be in here (hopefully under the directory name of your
Camera brand name)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Have you already looked there? Also, you are using the F3 key for your
searches, I hope.....

As I am sure you've already read, BE CAREFUL IN THERE.

Good luck,

Yeah, doing all of that, and that string is where I was following advise
from Kelly and Microsoft, but the entry is just not there.............there
is the instashield uninstall sub key with status text reference to wia
driver that i removed with no success, but that it.

Thanks Lawrence.....no success. Let me fill you in completley. I received
instruction from canon for the detailed removal of the driver. It
worked....no more crashes with the install of the updated driver. But the
old entry is still in add/remove and there is no reference to the old driver
in the uninstall string. Something other than the driver must be keeping it
there. Now here's the really weird part.I tried to remove the old entry with
RegCleaner. It was removed in RegCleaner, and added a second entry in
add/remove. Fanthom that! .... I am beginning to think that the instashield
uninstall sub key with its double entry of the " Status Text" for wia driver
is somehow responsible even though i removed them and it didn't change
things. Perhaps it was responsible for the reinstall but serves no other
purpose.......I don't know......thats the only straw i have to cling to and
it's driving me nuts.Everything is working fine, it's just a dog on the bone
issue with me now.

Aha... try booting in SAFE MODE, and then running RegCleaner.

Here's what I'm thinking.
For some reason it's buried deeply enough, or linked enough, that it cannot
be deleted in your normal state (maybe because it's corruptly loaded.)

But in SAFE MODE it will not get loaded... and RegCleaner should be able to
make the deleting stick.

Worth a shot?

What a weird situation.

Good point. LOL

Once you start thinking "uninstall", you tend to not notice things like
"remove"

Joshua, the remove function is not available. When I click on the file
"frequency of use" is shown as frequent, even though it no longer is the
driver being used.

Lawrence and others.......I've had a breakthrough. The two registry entries
I susspected are to blame. ( Info on them are listed below copied from the
jv16 4.1 tool ). When I removed them, they reappeared on reboot, and when I
checked add/remove, they were still there but showed the current date for
last being used. The drivers are gone and these are the remnants causing the
problem( a corruption). I tried to remove them in safe mode, but no
dice........so at least I'm getting closer.
