I recently installed Service Pak 3 through automatic updates. Now when I open
control panel and click on Add or Remove Programs, my computer restarts
before the list populates. I cannot find anything about this occurence. I
just wondered if there was a fix before I restore to a previous point. Thanks.

What OS are you using. There is not service pack 3 for XP.

It's XP Home. I must be mistaken about the Service Pak then. There were
automatic updates and I installed them. I thought it said 3.

Those are post SP2 updates that will be part of SP3 if and when it is
released.

My systems are both at SP2 with all subsequent updates, and neither of them
do what you describe. I'll venture a guess that something else causes the
problem.

Office 2003 had an SP3 update.

Are you running Office 2003?

Try System Restore.Select any restore point when everything was just fine.

Yes I am running Office 2003.

I tried restore and I'm really getting nervous now. It will not let me
restore to any prior checkpoint.

I got restore to work now and I restored to a point where I thought
everything was working okay. However, I still cannot populate the Add or
Remove list in Control Panel. The computer reboots.
