I have workstation (WS) that when i go into Add/Remove Programs and than
click on Add new Programs on the left side, it comes up with no programs to
add. However, I can go to serveral other WS's and the one program in the Add
New Programs is there. What could the problem be that I can not see the
program on this one particular WS. All WS's are running Windows XP, SP 4
with all the MS updates, including the one that is having the problem.

the WS all have XP SP 2 --- not SP4
the program that I need to install on this WS is on the server and I have no
problems installing it on any other WS, but this one.

From XP HELP:

To add a program from a CD or floppy disk
1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
2. Click Add New Programs, and then click CD or Floppy.
3. Follow the instructions on your screen.

Notes
* To open Add or Remove Programs, click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
* When using Add or Remove Programs, you can only install programs that were
written for Windows operating systems.

Hi Wesley,

thank you for getting back to me. However, the solution you have provided
will not work. The problem is that the software is on the server and when you
go into Add or Remove Programs on the left side of the box there is an icon
that says Add new programs. When you click on that it opens to another
screen where you can 1) add a program from CD-ROM or Floppy Disk, 2) Add
programs from Microsoft, 3) add programs from your network. When i go there
on any workstation but the one in question I see one program there (AutoCAD)
and you can click on ADD to install it. When I go to the WS in question, it
says there are no programs to install. I think there is some kind of setting
that has to be configured but I have not clue.

Have you asked your network administrator?

If your network administrator has organized programs into categories, you
may need to select a different option in Category to see the program you
want to add.

To add a program from a network
1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
2. Click Add New Programs.

* This topic only applies if your computer is connected to a network. If you
are not connected to a network, you can install programs using a CD, floppy
disk, or from the Internet.

I am the administrator, however, I was not the one that set up the software
to be installed this way. I did go into Add new programs and there are
catagories, however there are only two choices---1) all catagories 2)
engineering. nothing shows up under engineering on any of my workstations.
under the all catagories- the autocad shows up on all but that one that I am
having an issue with.
Any other ideas? :) your input is greatly appreciated.

Oh.

What I know about networks you could write inside a matchbook with a grease
pencil.

Maybe someone else will post. In the mean time, look at Software Settings
in Group Policy.

Software Settings
Paste the following line into Start |Run and click OK...

hh SPconcepts.chm::/Software.htm

Software Installation
