An employee developed a severe case of diabetes and is now visually
impaired. He needs to use a magnifying glass to read data on the LCD
screen. I requested a 21" LCD monitor for him to use. What else is out
there that might help him? Will XP Power Tools help?

If this person was recently diagnosed with diabetes, his vision may well
be impaired because high blood glucose levels affect the moisture
content of the lenses (in his eyes) causing blurred vision. This is
similar to the effect that causes out-of-control diabetics to get very
thirsty, drink large amounts of fluids, and have to urinate frequently.

Once he has been treated, and gets his blood glucose under control, his
vision should improve back to about where it was before. Of course,
it's also possible that more permanent eye damage has occurred. He
should see an ophthalmologist. See the 3rd Q&A at
http://www.worlddiabetesfoundation.org/composite-218.htm

Treating the symptoms by getting a bigger monitor without dealing with
the underlying medical problem is not doing him a favor.

I thought a magnifying glass (pane) would work, found one.

You've gotten a couple of replies about magnification. He might also
want to look into software that reads the text out loud to speakers or
earphones.

The Greatest Prank Call Ever - Well, pretty decent...

Enjoyed the hell out of that one, mate. My 14-year old lad was in pleats
of laughter.
