The pick to Delete a program has disappeared from the add/delete programs
control panel. How can I recover this so I can delete some unwanted
programs?

thanks

At start-up tap the F8 key,select safe-mode with networking,enter
as ADM.,open add-remove.If the programs are intact, figure you
have a corrupted user account,delete account,create a new one.

Dan,

Does this happen to all the programs shown in Add/Remove List. A registry value can be set which decides whether the user can uninstall the software or not. More details required.

Dan,

Not sure why it happens to all the programs listed. While I look into this problem, you can still uninstall a program.

Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Look for the name of the program which you want to uninstall.
Note down the value for 'Uninstall String' in the right-pane and copy to a notepad
Launch the command from Start/Run box.

The uninstaller for that program will begin..
