I just reloaded a Sony VAIO laptop and then loaded all of the Windows
Updates....Now I wanted to remove Messenger and the Add and Remove Programs
icon is missing in Control Panel..Is this a new bug??

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Look in the right for an entry for APPWIZ.CPL. If found, right click it and
select Delete.

If this doesn't work, click Start, Run and enter APPWIZ.CPL to run the app
for now.

You'll also want to check here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control
Panel\don't load

I checked all of your replies and they are not there..in fact when I went to
start..run..apwiz.cpl it tells me that it cannot find this file...Did
Service Pack 1 do this??

How would I reinstall??

I found the answer in another posting...It apparently removed this file and
it has to be extracted from the original cd..once I did this it is now
working..
