Hi,

Are there any adblockers that block ads only after downloading them? I
would prefer a proxy-based solution instead of browser-specific tools
such as Firefox extensions or the like.

It seems that a growing number of websites check whether the ads have
actually been downloaded and then grant/deny access to the requested
page, e.g. http://runob.seclan.be/.

Thanks.

Sigh. I can only see this escalating further if it really does catch on.
Someone will then invent something that will actually download the ad,
but then discard it.

If Google were to drop such sites from their results, then it may also
bring about an attitudinal adjustment.

It brings me back to my post I made some time ago: we should be grateful
to Bill Gates and his Internet Explorer. Whilst the vast majority are
being served up great big piles of spadvertising, it leaves the rest of
us to quietly go about our business.

You meant IE is/was a great decoy?

Do you really expect google "kill" self? From that page:
[ quot ]
google_ad_client = "...nuked...";
[ /quot ]

Options, IMHO
1. Defense against this crap: disable JavaScript.
2. Go elsewhere (don't visit such pages).

The Firefox extensions AdBlock and Adblock Plus will do that.

Sorry, I don't know of any. Maybe someone else can help.
