I'm running Adaware 6 Personal free version on WIN98.

Until today it worked perfectly. After an update it then identified
120 files of malware. adware etc. Which is amazine a previously there
might have been 2 or 3. And Zone Alarm is running.

It quarantines all selected files but when moving on to the 'delete'
process it hang up. Even slecting only one file to delete - and it
still hangs up.

I downloaded and reinstalled the program. Same problem.

Has anyone had this problem? And how to solve.

I also downloaded the the new YAHOO anti-spyware browser add-on and
ran it. Only 6 spyware files showed.

And ZeroSpyware showed only 5 suspicious files.

So why has Adaware gon made showing half the registry 'local key' full
of malware etc.?

Ideas much appreciated.

As Ad-Aware 6 is no longer being supported, you should replace it with
the newer SE Personal 1.05 that is available.

THANKS for this info. Myt mistake for Adaware 6 - I have the latest
Personal SE Free edition.

Since I posted on Google I checked out the Lavasoft support site for
Adaware Free and this hang up problem is widespread with many posts on
the 16th Feb.

Like there's something going around. And there is. By a process of
elimination - and luck I found what is causing the hangup - a malware
showing up as ADTOOLS.EXE ADTOOLS SERVICE from WindUpDates.

When Adaware tries to delete, this it hangs up all files in the list
deleting.
Therefore deselect Adtools before deleting the rest.

You can't even 'End Task' the Adtools process file. Worse still,
apparently this file once on your PC downloads even more spyware,
adware files, so you have literally hundreds of them overnight.

Only way to get rid of Adtools is go into Add/Remote Programs on the
Control panel, find the Adtools (or WindUpDates) and remove it. Even
then when you click to remove it tells you all the wonderful things
you're missing out on if you zap it. Run Adaware again and it should
be gone - with the rest of the rubbish it brought along with it.

Worse still, it seems to go undetected by ALL spyware stoppers except
Adaware. So how many PC's have their bandwidth strangled by it when
they think they're protected??

Which means its still working and since your last update you've chosen
to install an additional 120 brand new spyware files. Also, zone alarm
wont protect you from yourself as you chose to install any new spyware
that is written.

After reading the rest of your post it seems you are buggered down in
background apps. And you probably install just about anything without
reading a single doc.

Only those who refuse to read the End User License Agreement when
installing a program.
