Hi,

I am installing a small home/office XP workgroup but one of the nodes
is a laptop that belongs to a domain during the day and needs to be
able to join the workgroup durng the evening. I've read that MS
recommends that computers not belong to a domain and a workgroup.
What's the deal with this? The scenario that I am describing isn't
unusual. What are the consequences if I implement this?

Thanks,
Ed Stuart

Nothing native will do this, and it is not necessary. Why not just keep it
in the domain, and when it's taken home to use the workgroup, have the user
log in to the domain using cached credentials? As long as it has TCP/IP
connectivity and can ping the resources on the workgroup by name, the user
can map drives, etc., by providing the credentials for the host computer.

At the logon screen open details change logon from the
domain to this machine. Your machine wil communicate with
the workgroup using unc pathnames. Map network drives to
sin\mplyfi sharing. the drives will be saved to a local
profile and should not interfere with your domain login
