ad-hoc queries

Dear Card:

I typically write an ad-hoc query just like any other, but with less
stringent requirements as to clarity. I just don't necessarily save the
query. I run it and check the results. Run any ad-hoc action queries in a
copy of the database first and check carefully before affecting any
production database.
