Hi all, we current have an NT4 domain environment, and are
soon to be moving over to Windows 2003 Active Directory,
we have a single domain of 500 PC and about 25 servers and
that's it.

I was wondering how easy it ws to setup DNS in AD and get
it all working very well?

I keep reading up stuff about registering the domain, do
we? Do the 'outside' see it.

Basically what step to I need to follow to get this all
running nicely? and maybe let me know the best way to
setup a 2nd DNS and replicate the 2.

settingup is really easy.
dns server works well in my company

best way for you i think is:
install domain controller and let the wizzard install the dns server on the
domain controller (is really easy)
change your dhcp options to let all the clients point to the AD domain
controller as their dns server.
take care that the dns zone is active directory intergrated.
install a second domain controller, and let that one also run as a dns
server.
it is a bad idea to only use one domain controller

As a follow on to the other post regarding the dns name, it really depends
on if you have/want a dns name on the Internet. If your company is xyz.com
and already on the Internet, then you'd want to create your "internal"
domain name something like local.xyz.com or corp.xyz.com. This will
separate the two and make things easier to resolve, as your firewall will
block the local/corp from the "external" exposure. If you're not on the
Internet, then you can call it anything you want and hide it behind the
firewall.
Install dns on a second box and set the zone type to AD intergrated. There
are multiple ways/ideas on setting the IP config but several will work.
Either point both machines to one as primay and then the second machine as
alternate, or each to itself as primary and then the second dns server as
alternate.
