Hi all,
Environment:
W2K3 AD
Checkpoint VPN Solution

Problem:
The Notebooks work fine when they are in the Companynetwork and without any
Networkcable attached. As soon as they get plugged into another network
(anyway they are konfigured an IP from that network or not) they slow down
extreme at startup. I guess there are timeout's but i have no blue where the
problems come from. Any help?

Check the event logs....

Hm thank you for your quick and ... comprehensive .. help.. but,
the eventlog starts to late. You see, i startup the PC and till i even get
asked for username and password the system is around 5 Mintues busy.
That same system without any network connection needs around 1 Minute to get
to the logon.

The eventlogs keep telling me that the DNS cant be found. That the AD isnt
there so it uses the lokal cached Profile and that the Grouppolicies are
stopped and so on.. That is all ok till the VPN is up.

Soo.. now.. can you give me a hint where the system has a timeout befor the
user gets its logon-window?

That would be great..

Oh, it was nothing.

Hmm. The event logs should be telling you about everything that happens
between bootup and eventual login, and more.

OK... are you on a network with DHCP enabled? If you release the old IP
address, reboot, and try to log in again, does it still happen?

Good....

You didn't mention VPN before. You aren't trying to log in using VPN, are
you?

It's trying to find the DCs. If you can't resolve the problem, would it be
possible to tell the users to boot up & log in before connecting the network
cable, when they're off-site?

You might also do some googling -

http://groups.google.com/groups/search?hl=en&q=slow+login+xp+"cached+credentials"+VPN

?
