Trying to run Symantec VirusScan, but can't because of the
message "your current security settings prohibit running
activex controls on this page." Using IE6, Win98 This is a
new issue: it's worked for a long time. Reinstalled IE6 -
no help. Changed security settings, no help.

Sounds familiar. See my post on IE6 update Q822925. This
also prevented my Norton AV from running, among other
things. Suggest you run "add/remove programs" on IE to
get back to where you were before you loaded the IE update
(which I assume you did).

Thanks. Uninstalled IE. Selected the original version
option (can't remember the exact wording). Everything's
back to normal.

Maria, run "add/remove programs" from your Control Panel
and tell it to restore the previous version of IE6. That
will get you back to where you were before the Cumulative
Patch messed you up. Don't download the patch Q822925
again until you see something from MS syaing they've fixed
the problem.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Seems quite a
few users are experiencing this.

How do you find the Original version? Everything I can
find to download is the latest version with all the
updates.

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.
Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.
Click Add/Remove.
Select "Restore previous Windows configuration".

To MS person, if any, following this. Seems that
downloading an IE6 patch sometimes makes Norton Anti Virus
impossible to run. See other similar threads. Reverting to
an earlier IE6 version repairs the problem. Some suspect
update Q822925
