Does anyone have or know of a resource on the web that actually shows
images of the various ActiveX Controls in action? I'm curious about some
of them and being a visual person, the descriptions don't do a think for me.

perhaps would be better if you describe what kind of control you need. there
are so much controls that not sure you find a resourse which lists a good
part of them.

usging activex controls
 
At this point, its not a matter of NEEDED a control, just wanting to be
aware of what's out there.
