I am semi (empasize semi)-computer literate.
I tried to download a program and got a message that
said my active-x settings prevented the download from
occurring.
what is "active-x" and how do I lower its level?

thanks,

rl

This is a setting within Internet Explorer.
You should go into the Tools / Internet Options
within IE, select the Security tab, highlight the
appropriate zone (Internet for general websites)
and review all the settings for you safety found
there (including how ActiveX is handled) by
clicking Custom for the highlighted zone.
ActiveX is a technology for running code within
the browser, and there are a number of settings.
I generally have it prompt me for signed items
and disable unsigned. That way I can decide
based on what web I am visiting (but be careful
as some things are actually from the banners rather
that the web itself).
One of the IE newsgroups would be best to provide
you with more specific guidance.

thanks much!
