I am running xp pro and have had a problem trying to bring in windows
updates. I get a message that the security controls are set wrong and that
some pages will not display right. WHen I go up to the top of internet
explorer and reset to basics I still get the error. I believe that some of
the files have been corrupted. I tryed to uninstall the IE 6 explorer and it
will not uninstall and aI also tryed to reinstall IE 6 over the top and it
says that the version I have installed is newer than the one I want to
install even though both versions are the same.I would like to get this fixed
to be able to bring down updates. Thanks

Try re-registering the following .dll files
Softpub.dll
Wintrust.dll
Initpki.dll
Urlmon.dll

1. Click Start >Run and type
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
Click okay to register it
You should get a dialog box telling you that it was successful.
2. Repeat the process for the other .dll files.
3. Restart your computer and try the update site again.

if the above doesn’t help -
