,I'm active on a web page and suddenly the page goes inactive. If I click
the page, I'm in again. If I'm in a page where I have to type information
like this one I get a beep my typing is blocked and goes inactive. I have to
click the page before I can continue to type. Also the hard drive is buzzing
when it goes to the inactive mode. Seems like spyware, malware or adware,
but my cleaners don't show anything. I am running XP Professional SP2 and an
anti-virus program by F-Secure.

Bill,

When IE (or any programs) get inactive, it could be that another progrma is
trying to run a process thus making the current (IE for you) to become
inactive.

I would suggest that you run an Anti Spyware software like Adaware
(www.lavasoft.de) and Spybot Search and Destroy (http://security.kolla.de/).
Make sure that you update the definition of the software before you start
scanning. Delete/Quarantine the spywares files that it found.

Also, please update your virus scanner and try running your anti virus
software.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Jabez for replying.

I have used about 3 different spyware cleaners such as XsoftSpy, Spybot (the
one you suggested) and MS AntiSpyware Beta 1. they do not find any spyware
files. My antivirus programs indicate no viruses either. I still get
interrupted as I type and the page goes inactive and the hourglass shows hard
drive activity for a few sec. Left-click the page and I can continue. I
realize there is some prog operating in the background but what is it and
where is it. I would like to dump it.

I don't know if this is related but the screen saver no longer activates.
The attributes for 3DFlyingObj are missing in
CURRENTUSER\...\...\ScreenSaver\3DflyingObj. These attributes were there at
one time.

Please try taking a look in the Event Viewer (Control Panel > Administrator
tools), under system and application. Do a Save Log As and save it as .EVT
file. Have the 2 files send to me.

You might want to close down some unwanted applications besides the clock
and try recreating the problem. One of the programs which are running is
causing this problem. If by closing all programs under the clock doesn't
solve this problem, please also have your Processes' program names posted
here (Ctrl+Alt+Del to open up Task Manager >Process tab).

Thanks.
