Hello Everyone,

In older versions of Windows, the icons could be arranged as "list" as
opposed to the actual icons. Is this possible in Windows Xp? Just all the
desktop icons as a list going down or horizantly, something as seen in
Windows 98.

Thanks,
Sunden~

What you can do is create a Desktop Toolbar and position it
wherever you want on your desktop. You might want to try the
following:

Right click an open area of the Taskbar at the bottom of your
screen and click on "Lock the Taskbar" in order to remove the
check mark next to it.
Right click the Taskbar again and move your mouse pointer up to
Toolbars.
From the menu that's displayed, click on Desktop.
This should create a Desktop entry on the Taskbar.
Position your mouse pointer over Desktop on the Taskbar.
Click and hold down the left mouse button so that it turns into
a 4 pointed double arrow.
While holding down the left mouse button, drag the Desktop
toolbar onto your desktop.
Once you've positioned the Desktop toolbar where you want it
located, release the mouse button.
You can now resize the borders so that it shows all the desktop
icons.
Note: You can move the Desktop toolbar anywhere on your desktop
by left clicking on the top border and holding down the mouse
button.
You can remove the Desktop toolbar by right clicking an open
area on the toolbar and selecting "Close toolbar" from the
menu.

Once you have the Desktop Toolbar positioned where you want it
go back and right click on the Taksbar. Click on "Lock the
Taskbar".

Finally, right click an open area on your Desktop.
From the menu that's displayed, click on "Show Desktop Icons"
to remove the check mark next to it. This will hide your
Desktop icons.

Good luck

I don't remember this even in Win98. Are you meaning, text only? The
reverse can be done within XP. If you can send a screen shot of this to me
via private e-mail, this may help.
