In upgrading from WIN98 to Xp pro it has been found that
the computer is not up to the job.

I want to know how to deactivate Xp pro on that machine
and try again on another PC that has a higher
specification.

How do I decative the software so that it is usable on
another machine?

One cannot "deactivate" Windows XP. You should reformat the hard
drive (thus removing Windows XP), then proceed to install it on your
other computer. If internet activation should fail, then simply choose
the alternative option "activate by telephone" to obtain a new activation
code (free of charge).
