I just had a virus on my new comp even though I was using virus protection. I tried to activate windows over the internet but as I just bought this comp in December and activated windows then, I am told that I cannot activate windows again. So they are telling me that I spend $300 on XP pro and I cant use it?

Call This Number to Activate: Explain your problem,
Be nice ,but forceful. Don't take any crap. Ask for a
supervisor if you have a problem. Ask for their name.
Remember it's their Activation scheme, not your's, you
paid now it's up too them.

Call , 888-352-7140 and explain the situation.

Welcome to Micro$ofts wonderful world!

You have two options...
- Get the cracked version from the newsgroups and then not worry at all
about activation... or
- Call them on the phone and they'll give you a new reactivation key.

Hi Mike,

No reason you can't use it, you just may need to phone in the activation.
Start the activation, then follow the onscreen prompts.

It is not true. You can activate a copy on the same hardware as many
times as you like. Who told you that? You are presumably thinking of
formatting and a new install. MAke sure you have the 25 character
Product Key available (if the machine came with XP installed that should
be on a stiv=cker on the back of the machine; otherwise on a yellow
sticker that cam with the system - if you lose that use the free Aida
32, enterprise edition from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Software -
Licenses page will tell you the one used for Windows and ones for
several other items.

Then after the format and reinstall, if it asks you to activate, get on
the net and then run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows to
Activate on the internet.

If it came with a restore CD to put back to ex-factory state, then it
probably will not even need that done
