Alright, I built my computer at home and I have recently had to upgrade the
hard drive, processor, motherboard, video card, and system memory. I have
installed windows but it will not allow me to use the same activation key
because its already in use. The old hard drive was filled with nasty viruses
so I am not even going to use it again. How do I go about trying to activate
my windows XP Pro SP 2 on the new system?

You need to activate by phone.

Sounds more like a whole new computer, not an upgrade. And why don't you
want to use the old HD ?

It's an upgrade as long as some of the original parts are still there,
like a screw for instance. A new computer would be, well, new with no
old parts.

According to M$, a new motherboard constitutes a new computer, at least
as far as OEM licensing, unless the MB was faulty and replaced with the
same MB.

NOT THAT I AGREE WITH THAT !!

Not according to the EULAs I have with three computers, one XP Pro
English, one XP Pro Spanish and one XP Home, all generic OEMs. What
Carey and other refer to are the rules for a system builder, not an end
user.
