All I did was replace a CD Burner with a new DVD burner and DVD burner
software. During boot up I have been now asked three different times to
register and activate windows XP. I have in each instance complied with
request and it asked again. How can I stop this?.
Stan.

If you are a registered owner of the XP and have the original CD then
legally you are cannot be committing any copyright violation. A good
way is to do away with activation forever by using a patch from one of
the hacker sites. you can use yahoo or google search to find these.

Truly horrible advice! Visiting hacker sites is an excellent way to get
infected with viruses and trojans! Not to mention that it is against the
EULA to make modifications to the OS to circumvent or disable product
activation.

This might work. Start Windows XP in safe mode. Next,

Start>>Run and type regsrv32.exe licdll.dll. Enter.

Type regsvr32.exe licdll.dll. Enter.

It should take care of the Activation/Registration wizard
from popping up again.

Try repairing the Registry entries for the .DLL files used by
activation.

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

If it does not resolve the problem try booting the computer into Safe
Mode and doing it again from there.

Good luck

Ironically recovering from what these hacker sites may throw at you will
require activation post an installation on some sort. Being a new or repair.
Though the whole idea of the post was to avoid activation. PA is crapola I
know, Simple Guy you'll have less problems picking the phone up or doing
over the web.

When there is a credible Acivation crack that's simple to execute, I'll help
it fall from the sky, until then just be humble and use a little phone
manner.

Haven't made serious hardware changes in years. All I did was replace a CD
burner with a DVD burner. WinXP SP2 considered it a major change and brought
up the activation message. My system is not OEM.

So far Ron Martell suggestion has worked.

Thanks to all who replied with suggestions, ideas.
