Activation of Windows Home

Like a lot of people I had XP home installed and in order
to connect to my domain at work via Novell I needed
Windows XP Pro. I would like to install XP home on a
laptop that I have. My version of XP Home is an OEM
version. I believe OEM versions are not transferrable to
other computers. I really don't want to pay another $150
for a copy of Windows XP Home. Would it be possible for
me to pay a smaller price just for the opportunity to re-
activate by granting me another license without
purchasing another disk. I was just wondering if this is
possible.

Thanks,

Lenny

Hello Lenny
Yep you are correct OEM software is not transferable.
Look on ebay you can buy a copy of XP Home there a lot cheaper then $150
You can do a full install with an Upgrade version as long as you have a cd
of a qualifying upgrade version (98,98SE,ME)

Even Windows 95 will suffice for the qualifying product for a clean
install of XP.

I did not know that.
Thanks

It was unintentional, and XP will not upgrade an existing installed
Windows 95 system. But for a clean install using an upgrade CD then a
Windows 95 installation CD (but not a "system recovery" disk) will be
accepted as a qualifying product.
