Activation issue

I had to replace the motherboard on a system with an OEM copy of WinXP Home.
Now the system indicates it needs to be reactivated. When I login the system
reports that it has already been activated and shuts down. The system seems
to be caught in an activation loop. I noticed some old references to the same
problem but there were no solutions posted. Anybody have a solution?

Bob;
After a motherboard replacement, a Repair Installation is required to
properly detect the new hardware:

What type of OEM CD?
Some such as those furnished by some major manufacturers will not work with
a motherboard from a different manufacturer.

I was hoping it would allow me to update the drivers after I logged in. I'll
try running a repair installation. The system is an Emachine from Best Buy
and the owner claims he didn't receive an OEM CD or driver CD with the
system. I'll try a OEM CD from a different manufacturer and hope for the best.

An OEM CD from a different manufacturer probably will not work.
A generic OEM CD may work with the Product Key on the Emachine.

I hope that my OEM CD from Systemax is fairly generic. If it works at all I
should be able to use the Product Key from the EMachine. Systemax seems as
generic as they come.
