I have Windows XP 2002 SP2 and I have activated Windows over the net. But
everytime I turn on my computer, there is a window saying that I need to
activate windows at the welcome screen. So I go through the process over and
over. Is there anything that I can do to activate once and for all and stop
this vicious cycle?
Thanks

Did you try calling the 800 number instead of just repeating the activation
process via the net and asking them for help? Maybe something is not getting
through.

Reboot to Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu

Start/Run
Type "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" ENTER
Type "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll" ENTER

Reboot.
Activate again.

I have tried doing the 800 # again, and the safe mode boot, and still at the
welcome screen it says it needs to be activated. Is there anything else that
might work? Thanks.

Hi Jupiter Jones
I had exactly the same problemas Maveric. Ifollowed you instructions and it
seems to have fixed it. Thank you very much

I have the same symptoms. I've done the procedure recommended by Jupiter
Jones [MVP], activating over the internet. After that activation, while
still logged into the same session, the computer indicates activiation has
been completed when I select Start/All Programs/Assessories/System
Tools/Activate Windows.

I can bypass the activation at startup by cancelling the popup. When I do
that, during a session a notification pops up from the taskbar that says I
have X days to activate.

I have also tried activation via telephone, with the same results.

This computer is currently connected to a LAN, so activation at each start
is tolerable. Within a week, however, this computer will be moved do a
location that uses a dial-up. I fear that the computer will be inaccessible
at that time if activation is not completed.

Are there any other suggestions for solving this problem?

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current
Version\WPAEvents

In the right pane, right-click OOBETimer, and then click Modify.

Change at least one digit of first line value to deactivate Windows.

Run %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

Reboot Normally here if doing it from safe mode

Preinstalled xp system use the key on the back of the machine. All
others use the same key, that you used to install windows xp. Click
Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate
Windows, and then click Next. Click Change Product key. Type the
product key in the New key boxes, and then click Update. If another
Screen pops up-Click Remind me latter. Reboot. Then activate.
Reboot.
