I had an engineer load XP on a customers desktop with a copy that had
already been utilized. It will not allow us to activate it. We have a new
license for XP for this machine, but do not want to re-load the machine from
scratch. Is there a way to activate it with the new license that was
purchased but no used to load the system?

Ethan;
Assuming the installed and purchased are identical versions go to the
activation screen and choose the option to change the key and activate
by phone.

Ignore "install sp2 if want you too" Statement

Also, if doing it from safe mode. After changing
WPAEvents reboot normally. Then follow the remaining instructions

Yes you may have to activate

This should work, if you purchased the same type of license as was
used to perform the installation:

Windows XP Product Key finder:
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/keyfinder.exe
Includes an option to change the existing product key to a valid one
without doing a reinstall.

Good luck
