I want to change to a larger hard drive. Does anyone
know what the procedure is for re-activating Windows XP
after chaning the drive? My (perhaps naive) concern is
that Microsoft has me registered for my existing drive
and I am not sure what will happen when they see a second
activation being submitted for the same XP ID number.

Richard;
Simply install Windows XP on the new drive.
Attempt internet activation.
If that fails, choose the option to activate by phone.
Call displayed toll free number, done in about 5 minutes.

Thanks. It sounds like Microsoft is used to re-
activations after hard drive upgrades.

If you have an unused port on the IDE bus, you can simply add the new drive,
boot XP, mirror the old drive to a partition on the new drive, shutdown,
replace the old drive with the new one and boot using the mirrored data,
then create a new partition out of the remaining space or extend the boot
partition using Partition Magic (for example). That way you won't have to
re-activate XP.
