acSaveRecord isn't working

I am attempting to run the command
DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, acSaveRecord, , acMenuVer70

and I am getting the error messge,

The command or action 'SaveRecord' isn't available now.

any idea what is going on?
 
Just found out the "Allow Edits" property for the form needs to be set to YES
for it to work.
