Acrobat Reader hangs on start...

Hi all,

Acrobat Reader somehow stopped working on my system. If I try to open it the
flash screen appears and then nothing happens... According to the task
manager CPU gets very busy with this process... I tried uninstalling and
reinstalling it with rebooting in between, but it didn't make any
difference... Otherwise, the system seems OK... Any ideas besides
reinstalling XP?

Thanks,
/Mikhail

What version of acrobat reader?

How long are you giving it until you decide its hanging? Acrobat tries to
update itself and sometimes the update window is hidden behind the main
acrobat screen. So it appears to be hanging but its really updating.

A minute maybe?...

I will try to leave it for longer.

Tried it, didn't help... I think something got corrupted in the system,
perhaps some of the DLLs... I made a list of DLLs AcroRd32.exe depends on
(on another machine) and going to try to compare this list with what I have
on my sick computer...

The problem has been fixed. Apparently it is a known Adobe bug and they have
a solution in their knowledgebase, which in my case was to clean the
Documents and Settings\[user profile]\Local Settings\Temp from over 2000
0-size temporary files that the Acrobat created. Here is a link to the
solution page: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/31e12.htm
