Acer Computer Who Are They??

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but you
all seem very knowing.
Who is Acer? I saw an ad on Acer computers but I have never heard of
them.

In my experience they are a bunch of crooks. I bought an acer system
from Watford Electronics in the UK and they charged ny credit card three
times and sent me two systems when I ordered only one!

Perhaps it is only with my order but I have since looked at other
websites where people post messages about certain retailers and Watford
Electronics comes very badly!

ACER owns Watford Electronics or at least the management of both
compaies are blood related.

Thye have been around for quite some time...
The Acer machines I've seen were fine

They are a big computer maker and parts distributor. Their parts
division is known as A-Open, and has good parts.

However, while it is has a large market-share, it appears to be
thoroughly underequipped for sales & support. I believe that the UK has
a staff of about 5 so any S&S enquiries take at least a month to get
answered, if at all, and if at all competently.

Bought an ACER F1 from Ebuyer.com just over 12 months ago.....no
problems. Lots of expansion ports and slots.
 
They used to make regular PCs in the early and mid 90s here in USA. I had
one, worked okay. Was told they went out of business as I couldn't find one
anymore. After reading all the replies, they just went another route.

Acer is out of Tawian. I think I'll stick with compaq.

Had an Acer Travelmate 332 for a number of years (4-6) before HD gave up the
ghost. Can't blame Acer since the HD was an IBM Travelstar. Worked great
while I had it.
No complaints.

Acer/Aopen is a lot better than a Compaq anytime.
