Grettings, I'm trying to set up a new computer on our network and when
I try to access a network server in order to map a drive, I get an
error message saying the server is not accessable and that my account
is locked out. It seems just trying to access the server causes the
account to get locked. The problem only applies to one user account.
Other accounts don't have the problem.

The computer is running Windows XP Professional, the server is running
Windows 2000 Server, and we are on a Microsoft network.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lawrence

Hi Lawrence,

There are several possible causes for this symptom. One possibility is
stored User Names and Passwords. Saved credentials may have old passwords.
If any of the saved credentials are the same as the logon credential,
delete them. These saved credentials are redundant because Windows tries
the logon credentials when explicit credentials are not found. To delete
saved credentials for computers that are running Windows XP Professional:

1. Click "Start", point to "Control Panel", and then click "User Accounts".

2. Click the "Advanced" tab, and then click "Manage Passwords".

Some other less likely causes and possible solutions are contained in the

Paul, I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to let you know
how it turned out. We spent a long time trying to troubleshoot this
problem because we had never run into anything like it. Eventually
this user began having Exchange email problems in addition to her
account locking problem. We finally decided to delete her account and
recreate it (I think this was suggested in one of the Knowledgebase
articles). Doing this solved the problem ... crude but effective.

Thanks again for your help. Merry Christmas.

Lawrence
