I have a reminder program that I have had for years
and it loaded just fine in the computer when I got it,but I was
fiddling around with settings and for a short time I couldn't get the
program to come up, but I did eventually get it to come up but I have
to allow the program every time I want to start it. It was a program
that ran on start up for me, and now I have to start it manually
allowing it each time. After starting up it shows me in the tray that
Windows has blocked one of my start up programs and I have to tell it
to allow it each time. I can't remember what was the early problem or
how I got it to this point, I just don't know how to get around this
Account Control problem?

When I go into Control Panel, and User Accounts there is only one user
there, myself as administrator? I guess I don't know how to change
this properly?

Yes, the program is there and it is checked off.

Since this started after you had been fiddling with the settings, have you
tried using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when you were
fiddling with those settings?

Hi,

Run Windows Defender and check the quarantined items. Also, in Software
Explorer, check the blocked programs list.

No quarantined items in Windows Defender, program listed as not yet
classified in Software Explorer. I don't see anything that is
blocked. I don't see a way to change it, if I make a change it
applies to all the programs listed there. Like if I right click and
change it from Publisher to Start Up all the other programs change
too, so I put it back to Start Up.

I haven't tried system restore, I have never used it, and am a little
leery of it. Don't want to loose too much when my problem isn't major
yet.

Hi,

Well, as Michael has indicated, it is the quickest way to go back to what
was. I've used it numerous times without issue (not because I had to, but
because I wanted to see what it could handle/fix).

System Restore is only supposed to deal with settings. If you're documents
are in the Documents folder, you should be fine as System Restore doesn't
touch anything in that folder. You're application data should not be
touched either. Of course, you should always be well backed up but the
worst issue I've ever had with System Restore as that it was unable to do
the restore which left my system precisely where it was before I invoked it.
In such cases it gives you a message that nothing on your system was
changed.

if you have unchecked the box for it to run at startup in msconfig, that is the most likely reason why you get the error.

you might disable the programs option to run at startup and use Scheduled Task to run it at logon instead.

First of all thanks to all of you.

I did do as you say here, disabling it to run in Startup and used Task
Scheduler to run it at the computer's startup and this does take me
one step closer, however I still have to allow it when before it
starts. At least it does automatically comes up and I can run it to
see what I need when the computer starts.

I still didn't use system restore, I feel confident from what Michael
tells me when I do decide to try that step.

I would just say that I do remember what I did prior to it not
loading. When I looked at properties for it, it showed read only and
I unchecked the read only. If I tried to put it back I believe it
would give me an error code #17. I was able to get rid of that by
setting it to run as administrator by right clicking and looking at
compatibility. I have taken that off and the error code #17 comes
up. I can get into the program, but I have to allow it no matter
which way I set it, with the error code it just won't load from
startup, but if I set it to run as administrator the error code is
gone, but I have to allow the program to run.

Scheduling it as a scheduled task does bring it up automatically and
for now I can live with it, but I just put the explanation of what I
am seeing for those who are following this thread.
