Accidental multiple install of XP Pro

I bought a new HD and followed MS Knowlege Base Article
313348 for advice to partition and format the thing.
What I didn't get was that if you use the format command
in those instructions you will get a new system (XP)
installed in the partition you just formated. My question
is; What's the best way to get rid of the redundent
system? Can I just Delete it, I didn't go past the file
copy stage of the installation but I know its somewhere in
the init file because two XP system notices flash on the
screen at start up and it goes back to try to complete the
install.

Still me. How so I get to the Boot.ini file to delete a
reference to the redundent system and wouldn't that do it
as far as getting rid of the problem is concerned? (If I
delete the redundent files too?)

1. Make sure that by default you are booting to the correct installation of
Windows XP: Right Click My Computer -> Properties->Advanced->Startup and
Recovery
2. Go to the root of your System drive (usually C:) in explorer.
3. Unhide all operating system files: TOOLS -> FOLDER OPTIONS...->VIEW
4. On the root of your System drive you should see BOOT.INI. Right click
on this file ->Properties->uncheck Read Only->OK
5. Open up Boot.ini in notepad. Delete the unused installation under the
section labled [Operating Systems]
6. Save.
