Accessing Shared Drive

I have a small network with 4 computers all running XP pro. I have disabled
simple file sharing and on one of the computers have shared a drive to
everyone. The other computers on the network can only use the drive when it
is logged in as a kwon user of the computer sharing the drive. How do I make
the drive accessible to all the computers without making everyone a user on
the one computer?

You have 2 choices:
1) Make the drive accessible to "Guest", which gives everybody equal access.
No additional work will be required.
2) Make the drive accessible to known users, which gives specific users access.
This will indeed require you to add each account (with identical password) on
your server.

I have the same problem:

2 PCs both running winxp sp1 under 1 workgroup. let's say client is pc1
and server is pc2.

sharing method: not simple

shared folder set permission to let's say pc2user.

first thing i did was map network drive, specify login as different
user, entered servername/username and password. I get error that
"network folder specified is currently mapped using a different name
and password..." even if there were no mapped drives. searched KB,
solution was to have sp1. that didnt help because i have all the latest
updates.

2nd thing i did was manage passwords in pc1 and entered pc2user name
and password. result - didnt work.

3rd thing i did was create a user in pc2 that is identical (both name
and password) with a user in pc1. didn't work.

i think i followed all your recommendations in your blog but it's still
not working. i'm hitting a blank wall.

please help

Can you please start by opening a new thread, and using a unique and descriptive
Subject. It will be to everybody's advantage, including yours.
