Accessing .pst remotely via webserver

I have two machines at home, a laptop and a desktop. I have set these
up to both use a pst file residing on a separate machine. This works
fine as long as I don't try to open Outlook on the two at the same
time.

What I would also like to do is access this pst file remotely. I run a
webserver for personal webpages via a dsl connection. Is it possible
to some how access this pst file remotely via the webserver, and to
even possibly send and receive email, still storing these in the pst
file?

Looking through various newsgroups I can't see how this could be done
easily, if at all. Can anyone suggest any software or ASP scripts that
might make this possible?

Thanks for any help.

Chris

Don't go there. Using pst-files on a networkshare already isn't supported by
Microsoft so don't even start about webservers ;-). Even when you set up a
VPN connection the connection to the pst-file won't be very stable as
Outlook needs constant access to the pst-file or it will drop the connection
to it.

What you can do is set up an Exchange server and use OWA (Outlook Web
Access) to read/send mail and to manage contacts and calendars. OWA is the
webbased mailclient within Exchange.

Hope this helps!

Cheers for the response.

Using OWA is exactly what I want, but I don't want to go through
configuring Exchange just for my own email on my home workgroup (is it
even possible without using a domain?). Is there any way I can
configure OWA on its own or a kind of cut down/bodged Exchange install
(unlikey to impossible I imagine)? Or is there some other web access
software I can use?

Thanks

Chris

You'll need to configure a domain at home indeed if you want to use
Exchange. There is no need to register a domainname as you can also use your
IP-address to connect to home.

I don't know about OWA like solutions that can be used for pst-files. Why
don't you use the option to leave your messages on the server for a couple
of days or do you need to access your complete "archive" of mail as well?
