I had a problem with Outlook Express when Windows XP was loaded onto my
machine. The person who loaded XP saved my database of emails in Outlook
unknown to me although I continued to access existing and new mail via
Outlook Express. When it came to transfer these emails to a new machine I
could find no database except the database prior to the installation. It was
subsequently found in access as an outlook file with .pst sufixes. I paid a
lot of money to an 'expert' to find my emails and he could not although I
found someone else who did, and for nothing. The 'expert' tells me it is not
possible to have a database in outlook and access emails via outlook express.
Please...can someone help me with either a rational explanation or something
I can show this 'expert' so that he does not take more money off idiots like
me?

Outlook and Outlok Express are two completely distinct applications.
Outlook keeps its message, calendar, task, contact, etc. data in files
ending in .pst, usually all in a single file. The default location for that
file is
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, which is a
hidden folder (because Local Settings is hidden). You must enable viewing
hidden files and folders to see it.

Outlook Express keeps is data .dbx files in
%UserProfile\Local Settings\Identities\{identityvalue}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express, with one file for each folder. Again, since Local Settings is
hidden, you need to enable viewing hidden files and folders in order to see
it.

Outlook can import data from Outlook Express and Outlook Express can export
data to Outlook, each directly. So, if you have message data in OE you want
in Outlook, you can click File>Export>Messages. If you want to import from
Outlook, you use File>Import and Export>Internet Mail and Addresses,
although it's best to use that only for COntacts and Rules, using hte export
from OE to handle the messages.
