accessing my document after a xp reinstalation

I reinstalled Xp home on my computer and I can still view
the folder containing my documents under my old username
with in C:\documents and settings\user\ but I can not
open my documents or any folder inside C:\documents and
settings\user\ Does anyone have any experiance with this?
