Accessing Hotmail in Outlook 2002

Up until the other day I was able to access my Hotmail
email using Outlook 2002. Now I can't seem to. Anyone got
any clues as to why this might be so?

I'm running Windows XP on my laptop.

Andrew

Since you give us nothing to work with, probably not.

How did you "lose" your Hotmail? What did you install/uninstall just prior
to it not working? Have you checked your account setttings? Did you try to
remove and re-add the account? Any error messages? etc....

"How did you "lose" your Hotmail?

A damn good question - it just stopped working.

What did you install/uninstall just prior to it not working?

I've not installed or uninstalled anything to the laptop for weeks - well
before this problem arose.

Have you checked your account settings?

Yes I have - they haven't changed from pre- to post- problem.

Did you try to remove and readd your account?

Several times - and nothing! Now Outlook is telling me there's nothing in my
Hotmail Inbox, which I know to be incorrect (and which I have checked via
website).

Any error messages?

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x800CCCF4) : 'An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work
and restart the program.'

Are you trying to access Hotmail from a corporate environment? The message
you cite usually means that there is a proxy server or firewall that doesn't
understand the HTTP/DAV protocol used for Hotmail. It may be that your
networking folks just installed or reconfigured such software.

No I'm not - this is my personal laptop connected to a cable internet
service running into my home. I haven't changed or otherwise altered my NAV
settings at any stage since I installed it about 6 months ago. Accessing
Hotmail via Outlook has worked since this.

I'm still at a loss...

I too have the same problem - a private network (ie nor corp) with cabl
internet.

This problem is just more likely to crop up inside a corporation than for a
home user. As I said, the likely cause is that a proxy server or firewall
that sits between you and Hotmail does not understand the HTTP/DAV protocol
(http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2518.txt). It may be that your ISP recently
installed such a proxy server or firewall - contact them and find out.

I'm in Australia using Optus cable - any one else got this problem? I'm
also using a Netgear FR114P router (with latest rev of software)to the
cable modem. PCs have Windows XP Home and OL2003 going to a Hotmail
account. All other internet access functions are working fine.

I turned on logging in OL with the following occuring for each failed
attempt at a send/recieve:

Hi Jeff - I have the problem with Optus, but not with another user that I
tested at work today (all other software being similar). I think it's
obviously a problem with Optus, and I've sent OPtus technical support a
support request to find out what's happening.

Could you post back with the result of your tech support request? I *think*
that Outlook is just the messenger here, reporting that something on the
network was causing a problem, but I'd like to know whether that is the
case.

Would be more then happy to Jeff - once they actually get back to me. It's
