am I missing a simple step... I have established a VPN on both a client and
host computers (work and home) dial in and connect. I see the small icon on
the bottom of my screen.
Is the next step then to type the ip address of the host computer into the
explorer bar? then what I see will be the shared files folder only? or can I
access all of my files on the host computer (both running xp by the way). and
if this is the case should I be copying and dragging shortcuts to programs on
the host computer I want to access remotely into the shared folders file?

you can map the remote computer shared drive or create a shortcut to point to the remote shared drive.

thanks... once mapped I should be able to see all of the drives on the
network? Or is mapping just a quick way of accessing the VPN? I don't mind
dialing in and connecting everytime it's just that I need to access other
drives on networked computers remotely. Using the Host computer in person I
can see all of the other shared drives on my network but when I dial in thru
the VPN all I can see are the shared docs on the host computer and not any of
the other network drives on other computers.

is mapping the drive just a shortcut to the VPN setup? If so I don't mind
dialing in all of the time... I'm more interested in accessing the drives and
programs on other computers on the network remotely (which by the way I can
see those drives on the other computers on the network when physically at my
desk on the host computer).
