Accessing documents in Folder using only partial title of document

I am a new user of Office XP, and finding it does not operate like Office 2000. When I type in a partial name of a document in a folder, the document names to do not pop up like they did in Office 2000. For example I have several documents in a folder with numbers in the name and if I type in that number no ducuments come up. I would appreciate any help

Yeah, it's a drag. Try typing the letters, as before, then add: *.* and press ENTER

It didn't work with just the numbers, but it did help with other files if I just put in the partial name and *.*. I appreciate your help. Sorry I am so late with a thank you

If you want a partial from anywhere in the title you need to vary the
wildcard string

*John*.* will find any title with the word John.

John*.* will only find titles beginning with John.

*John.* will find titles ending with John.

* simply represents the missing data.
