I recently installed a second hard drive (Drive F) on my Desktop PC. I want
to access Desktop Drive F files from my Laptop PC that is networked via a
wireless router. I have no problem accessing Desktop files in the Shared
Documents folder, but I do not know how or if to make the new location
available to the Desktop. Both HP computers are XP SP2.

Is what I want to do possible? Can someone point me to a set of
instructions to help me set this up? If so, perhaps I can proceed for a
while and get a little more experience before I muddle everything up. Then I
can come come back and ask more intelligent questions.

Thanks.

On the Desktop PC:

1. Open My Computer.
2. Right-click the F Drive.
3. Click "Sharing and Security" and specify the sharing options.

Per Steves suggestion , I have checked that the F drive has been set for
sharing on my network. I can see the Laptop from my Desktop PC but for some
reason I cannot see the Desktop F drive from my laptop. Yet I know that the
laptop is somehow looking back to the Desktop because the shared printer
plugged into the desktop can be used by the laptop. How do I get the laptop
to see desktop drive F?

Now, I'm making some progress. I find that if I go to Internet explorer and
type in \\192.168.1.100 as a url, I can see my DESKTOP F drive and its
contents, and I can even play the music files on DESKTOP F through the
speakers on my LAPTOP. And now when I go to Windows Explorer and click on My
Network places DESKTOP F Drive is listed.

I stil have one question. I am a little fuzzy about my network setup and I
need to know how to make sure everybody in the neighborhood doesn't have
access to it. I think my router address is \\192.168.1.1, my DESKTOP is
\\192.168.1.100, and my LAPTOP is \\192.168.1.101. How do I make sure that
nobody but DESKTOP and LAPTOP has access to my wireless router? A link to
appropriate instructions would be very much appreciated.
