Access2K append queries fail under XP Pro

I have a series of append queries (Access2K) on a SQL Server 2K backend
db (ODBC). These queries worked flawlessly for years under NT 4.0, but
since we upgraded workstations to XP Pro some of the queries fail at
random (start to run, but then lock up the workstation). Different
queries fail in different sessions - sometimes a given query will run,
and sometimes not. The queries all return the correct records when run
as select queries, but lock up when run as append queries. I have
refreshed all of the ODBC connections, but to no effect.

Does anybody have any suggestion as to what might be going on here, or
how to diagnose this problem?
