I upgraded Windows 2000 to Windows XP professional. Before I was able to
access any file (folder) on any computer from any other computer. Now I can
not. What kind of setup I have to do to have the same functionality I had
before. Security is not an issue within this LAN. I turned Fire wall off and
did not help. I do not use passwords at all in this LAN.
This is very important to me; I will appreciate any suggestion.

Thanks,
Al

if you insist on being unprotected and maknig you network like open door
house in the neighbourhood full of internet crooks,
you can make everyone has access to every data folder, and files in
security and also in folder sharing. And if you want to make it even easier
by name, fix ip address of your PCs in the network

suggestions:
1.turn on file sharing
start menu, control panel, networking, make sure there is
file and printer sharing to Microsoft networks and checked
Client of Microsoft networks for the PC using the shared folders,
and checked
2 on the PC to share files, create the required shares on data drives ...
and make sure the folder hare permission and security agree.
3 when you need to access the files, you can either map or us unc like
\\pc1\share1\fileX.txt

Actually the built-in windows firewall are that much of trouble to use. It
may not be the best protection but usually it is not an obstacle to your
work nor enjoyment of your PC. On the other hand it may actually cut down
phishing, and internet threats
