Ok I got rid of the Semaphore timed out when I clicked on my computer in my
work group of computers but now this comes up

\\evan is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator (Which is me home network) of this server
to find out if you have access permissions.

Access is denied.

Now going on about 16 hours of trying to fix this. I unistalled network
adapter and reinstalled all services IE TCIP, File Sharing and so on. I
fooled around with the security settings. I tried links posted here, removed
simple file share, removed workgroup name and still can connect to one system
on my network.

I can connect to all other networked systems from each computer but the
\\evan computer the \\evan computer can connect to itself and all other
computers on the network. I turned off the fire all on the router and winxp.
shut off Nortons virus scan and may spyware software still no luck

I'm stumped and need major help

Turn on the firewall on the router. It shouldn't affect the LAN. If it is
the affected machine that has Norton installed, uninstall it. Turning it
off will not solve the problem.

I uninstalled norton antivirus and all seems to be fine. How does nortons
antivirus affect the firewall. What shoul I use for antivirus software now?

I use AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01) which is free
and I have used it for years without a problem. Other people recommend
Avast which is also free. Another recommended one is Kapersky but I tried
that a while ago and had problems but it may be better now.

Norton is getting a reputation for being problematic and one of the first
things I do is uninstall Norton where there is a network problem and Norton
is involved.

Thanks.

I re-installed nortons and all works well like it did before it was strange
took 16 hours of my time reading here and searching the net. I uninstaled
nortons and all was working. may people should be asked that first as I see a
lot of people have this same problem and they are running all over here
trying stuff and searching the web.

Thanks Tony and have a good holidays
